Kristin Ebner, daughter of Buzz and Sherry Ebner (Directors Emeritus of Camp Awosting), has been director
of Camp Chinqueka since 2003, having grown up at the camp and been involved in the management and administration
for nearly 25 years. Kris was a camper at Chinqueka for her entire youth and has been a staff member at both Awosting
and Chinqueka ever since, including Head Counselor, Program Director and Waterfront Director. Kris is also very
active with the American Camp Association year round and is very highly regarded in the New England camping community.
Kris has 2 boys, Hugh and Bryan. Her younger son, Hugh, is a camper at Awosting and her older son, Bryan, was a
camper at Awosting for many years and is now away at college in Missouri. Although she lives on campus for the summer,
her year round residence is just down the road from Chinqueka.
During the winter months, Kris works in the office helping to hire staff and enroll new campers. Kris also provides
tours of Chinqueka during the summer (the best time to see camp in action) or on select Sundays in the Fall and Spring.
Barbara Ebner, an ACA-recognized summer camping pioneer, is Director Emeritus at Chinqueka and is still actively
involved at camp as a consultant. Barbara has been on the staff at Camp Chinqueka since its founding in 1955.
Barb earned her B.A. and M.A. in Education from Newark State College (now known as Kean University) in Union , NJ
She spent nearly 20 years as an educator teaching in the New Jersey and Connecticut school systems before retiring to
spend all of her time working with the camps.
Both Barb and Kris are licensed as a camp directors by the State of Connecticut. Barb (left) is pictured here Kris (center)
